Why Some People Do Not Celebrate Christmas

Why Some People do Not Celebrate Christmas

There are billions of other people who have chosen not to celebrate Christmas. Why?

Very soon billions of people will be celebrating Christmas. Traditions, food and decorations might differ, but basically it is for the same reason Christmas is being celebrated. It is the time Jesus is said to have been born, which is a great cause for celebration. At the same time, however, there are billions of other people who have chosen not to celebrate Christmas. Why? The reasons are different, but basically it boils down to three main ones.

Shopping is all done for you

One website shopping for the whole family.

Slippers and pajamas are more popular than ever this year.  I wanted to know why and here is what I found.

Cute overload is for everyone -- not just for kids!  Even men have some fun slippers and pjs.  Have you seen the Homer Simpson slippers and Lounge Pants yet?
My personal favorite for women are the Dolphin Slippers with matching Lounge Pants

The word is out that the most popular is the Dragon Slippers found in my Slipper Zoo

There are even some slippers that Grandma will love.

Looking for that old fashioned flannel nightie for those cold nights?  I found it!

Visit Matching Slippers and Pajamas before they sell out.

Honeysuckle Flower is this weeks reigning Queen

In my Friendship Oasis Garden the elegant Honeysuckle is this weeks reigning Queen.

I picked a honeysuckle flower and gave it to a blind lady. The sweet scent brought back the memories of the wild honeysuckle vines in her neighborhood in England. The joy a single flower gives shone from her face!

I created a friendship note card for you to give to your friend.  It is photographs of my stunning honeysuckle.

Lamb's Ear

Have you ever touched a lamb's ear?

Have you ever touched a Lamb's Ear Plant?

Isn't the similarity amazing?

Lamb's ear (Stachys byzantina) is easily recognized by its large, touchable, fuzzy, silvery-gray leaves. Kids love Lamb's Ear plants in their garden because the leaves feel like lamb's ears.

In our garden this Lamb's Ear is growing.  See the Photograph of the plant called Lamb's Ear

Addicted and Proud of it!

I confess I am an addict.  And now I have a friend who has the same addiction.

We are addicted to flowers!  We don't just stop to 'smell the roses' but we 'sniff' every flower and look closely with awe at all the smallest exquisite details and then photograph these jewels of the plants world.  We spend quality time with flowers.  We have learned that this addiction is good for your mental and physical health - Read my blog about Health Benefits of Flowers  and and look at the photographs from my container garden called Barbara's Oasis which is my Garden of Joy.

I would like to introduce you to my friend, Mujjen ( http://www.redgage.com/mujjen ) and here is her stunning bouquet of her addiction simply titled : My Addiction

A Mother's Love about Mom Moose and Her new born Twins

Mom Moose and her Twin Babies.

Follow the picture story of the dilemma that Mother Moose faces and how she tenderly deals with it.  See a Mother's love in nature.

Photographs sent to me by a relative who happened upon a Mother Moose and her twin newborns. Too little to go over the big log. What did the Mom do?
First thing she does is give the scared little moose a 'moosey kiss' to reassure them.
http://www.redgage.com/photos/gramabarb/day-167-babies-are-stuck-whats-a-mom-to-do-june-16.html

Suddenly she notices more potenial trouble. "Oh No! The Paparazzi have found us!", said Mom moose to her twin babies.
http://www.redgage.com/photos/gramabarb/day-171-its-the-paparazzi-june-20-photoaday.html

Mom Moose gives her crying babies a moose kiss and says "Sh--Sh-- Follow me, Kids! "
http://www.redgage.com/photos/gramabarb/follow-me-kids.html

Mom Moose led her babies to a bank that was easier for them to climb. Feeling secure now Baby asks a question like all kids do. " Mom, What is a Paparazzi?"

The End

Strawberry Delight

Strawberry Delight is Part Two of Crime in the Strawberry Patch

(note - the Photographs help tell the story - click on them)

We didn't catch the strawberry thief but in the true spirit of all The Seniors living here we know how to move on from a bump in the road. And so we did!

The strawberries continued to ripen and delight us.
http://www.redgage.com/photos/gramabarb/day-164-more-ripe-strawberries-june-13-photoaday.html

When there were 3 strawberries ripe enough to eat I picked them and sliced them so the self-appointed Strawberry Patrol could all have a taste.
We all agreed it was a true old-fashioned home grown strawberry taste. You can see from the photo that the strawberries were ripe to the core.  They were delightful.

Canadian Olympic Curling History

Hockey may be Canada's game, but curling is Canada's life.

The game of curling was invented in Scotland. The game of curling was already in existence in Scotland in the early sixteenth century as evidenced by a curling stone inscribed with the date 1511, uncovered along with another bearing the date 1551, when an old pond was drained at Dunblane, Scotland.

Scottish immigrants introduced curling to Canada where it thrived and attained a level of excellence that remains unsurpassed. Canada currently has an estimated 1,000,000 curlers and is generally considered the dominating force both in innovations to the sport and in competitive curling success. I have in the spotlight a Canadian women curler - Sandra Schmirler. Sandra led her team to the first-ever Olympic gold medal in women's curling in the 1998 Games in Nagano, Japan.

Sandra Schmirler was voted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame just two years before her tragic death from cancer at age 36.

Curling Teams Wearing the Maple Leaf in 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics

Cheryl Bernard and her Calgary team will represent Canada at the Olympic Games tournament in February at Vancouver.

Olympic silver medallist Kevin Martin will get his opportunity to go for gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Curling defined

Curling is a team Olympic sport in which stones are slid across a sheet of carefully prepared ice towards a target area.  Game in which two teams of four players each slide a round stone by means of a gooseneck handle on the top over a 138-ft (42-m) stretch of ice toward a target circle. The object is to deliver the stone closest to the centre (called the house). Each player delivers two stones, which average 40 lbs (18.1 kg) apiece, often applying a curl to the stone's trajectory. The player's teammates use a broom to sweep the ice ahead of the oncoming stone in order to facilitate a longer slide or to adjust the arc of the curl. Blocking and knocking out an opponent's stones are important strategies of the sport.

A competitive game usually consists of 10 ends. After both teams have delivered eight stones, the team with the stone closest to the button is awarded one point for each of its own stones that is closer than the opponent's closest stone.

Curling: The History, The Players, The Game

Once a little known sport, played only in Scotland and Canada, curling has exploded onto the international sports scene, culminating in its debut as a full medal sport at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Each year millions of players in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan take to the ice to play this fascinating game -- now an Olympic sport. "Curling" is the ideal book for anyone interested in the sport
